Music and culinary hub Nashville, Tennessee is known for lots of things, but tall buildings isn’t really one of them. Paramount, a 60-story tower designed by Goettsch Partners at 1010 Church Street, sets out to change that.

Today, the tallest structure in Nashville (the AT&T Building by Earl Swensson) tops out at 617 feet. When completed, Paramount will measure 750 feet. Goettsch Partners envisions 360 apartments, 140 condominiums, amenities, and a 517-space parking garage inside the tower.

In elevation, Paramount has a distinguished base, shaft, and “crown,” a series of triangular glass surfaces that culminate in a diamond shape at the top four floors, where the most expensive residences will be sited. This faceting is meant to reflect light in multiple directions and reinforce the tower’s verticality, architects from Goettsch Partners said.

Goettsch Partners started working with developer Giarratana on Paramount in 2021. That year, the YMCA of Nashville issued an RFP for an addition and renovation to its existing downtown facility.

Goettsch Partners and Giarratana conceived the winning proposal: A 5-story, 60,000-square-foot YMCA addition at the corner of Church Street and YMCA Way with the 60-story Paramount apartment and condominium tower adjacent to the new-and-improved YMCA.

New renderings show the YMCA building faced with glass akin to the striking glazing used on the adjacent condominium tower. A porte-cochère will make a grand entrance to the residential tower, which boasts a long list of amenities, among these private kitchen and dining rooms, lounges, fitness facilities, co-working spaces, and a pool located on a terrace.

“The selection process for the project was unique, and our relationship working closely with Giarratana was a real asset,” said Vladimir Andrejevic, principal at Goettsch Partners. “Ultimately, we had to find a solution that provided the Y with a world-class addition to address its facilities needs well into the future while unlocking the rest of the site for a special development.”

Excavation has already begun at 1010 Church Street for Paramount’s foundations. Last week the developer announced it has secured $230 million in construction financing for the project that is reported to cost a total of $390 million.

Construction is slated for completion in 2027.

Aside from Paramount, Goettsch Partners and Giarratana are currently working two other multifamily residential buildings in Nashville. These include the Prime building at 801 Church, which is currently under construction, and Alcove building at 900 Church Street.
