Exhibition explores Luis Barragán designs and the major artists they influenced

For the inaugural show of Timothy Taylor 16x34, the new New York outpost of London-based Timothy Taylor gallery, curator Oscar Humphries worked with the Barragán Foundation to create the Architecture of Color: The Legacy of Luis Barragán. Humphries paired pieces from the Barragán archives, such as furniture from Cuadra San Cristobal, an estate in Mexico City, with works by major artists who were influenced by Barragán such as Josef Albers, Sheila Hicks, Dan Flavin, Agnes Martin, Carl Andre, and Sean Scully, as well as famed Mexican artists Eduardo Terrazas, Chucho Reyes, and Jesus Reyes Ferreira. The collection, combined with cacti and walls painted the bright hues of the iconic Casa Barragán, transforms the space into a full embodiment of the architect’s signature aesthetic.
