The Most Exciting Pieces from The AD Design Show

This year's Architectural Digest Design Show at Piers 92/94 was full of big-name brands with exciting tech innovations. However, a lot of the most exciting designs came from the AD Design Show's MADE section which featured juried galleries of more than 150 artists and designers from around the world.  León León's Acapulco chair isn't just stylish, it also happens to be made of Pineapple leather (yes, the fruit). The designers are the first brand in the world to utilize the fabric in a useable product. This hyperrealistic wallpaper from Flavor Paper comes in four mesmerizing color options. Each can make any office or home space feel balmy and tropical even in the dead of winter. Nobel Truong makes neon acrylic cacti sculptures and lamps that are wired with UV blacklight LEDs. They're perfect for those of us not gifted with a green thumb (even when it comes to succulents). Banner's Haven ergonomic chair is sculpted out of solid ash. They're available in black or white with leather or exotic calf hair upholstered seats. Sarkos wallpaper is entirely hand-painted and each panel is one-of-a-kind. The paint creates dazzling textures with shades that change depending on light. Everything at the Sony Life Space UX booth was exciting, from an incredibly high-definition Short throw projector to the portable version (seen above) that can be project on a wall, ceiling, or table. It can even fake a gorgeous view in a windowless room. There was also a stunning glass sound speaker that offers 360 degree non-directional clear sound. The most affordable product was a LED bulb speaker that can add music—and a warm glow—to any room. Miele's Generation 6000 dishwasher, in addition to being supremely quiet and efficient, can now be installed completely flush to the all—instead of a handle, just knock twice to open. Jennair offers fully integrated and wall-flush designs that come in a variety of options. One of their new features is an obsidian black interior that really makes food visually pop.

Product> Must-Spec Kitchen Equipment

From food storage and prep to cooking and cleanup, a kitchen’s function—if not its form—is determined to a large extent by the quality of its equipment. Here are some new and notable products to specify for the serious cook. Ye Elica Ye is one of the first range hoods to be sheathed in Cristalplant, a polymer material that allows the creation of soft, fluid lines. The directional, double-suction vent is operated by remote control. LED spotlights illuminate the cooking surface. Designed by Fabrizio Crisà. Planar 8 Faucet Franke Made primarily of solid brass, the new Planar 8 kitchen faucet is equipped with a ceramic cartridge for leak-free operation. AD Home Design Show: Finds From the Floor

This morning, the AD Home Design Show opened at Pier 94 in Manhattan to the A&D trade and members of the press. AN is proud to be a media sponsor of the 12th edition, which includes seminars in the Jenn-Air Master Class Studio and approximately 40 unique dining installations at Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids' (DIFFA) Dining by Design NY 2013. Additionally, more than 400 brands were on site with their latest offerings and following are a few that caught our eye. Calico, a new company hailing from Brooklyn, New York that was formed during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, produces large scale wall paper in non-repeating marbleized patterns (pictured at top). Artist Rachel Mosler begins by marbleizing paper swatches, which designer Nick Cope adapts for interiors on handmade cotton paper produced by Dieu Donné. Miele's full suite of culinary appliances, including a 30-inch convection oven, steam oven, speed oven, whole bean coffee system, and plate and cup warmer, are now available in a glass-fronted white finish that highlights the products' chrome handles and supports Navitronic touch controls. The new finish, Brilliant White Plus, facilitates a seamless visual across all of Miele's collections in one of the year's strongest interior colors (above). Skram, a North Carolina-based furniture company, produces two versions of the Piedment Conference Table: Standard and Limited Edition. The Standard model is available in six different material options of solid timber construction with a wafer cut edge, while the Limited Edition is constructed from two book-matched wide plank timber slabs. Look for the table constructed from red gum timber at the AD Home Show this weekend. Sonneman—A Way of Light is introducing more than 130 new products during the show in New York; one of which is Axes. An LED pendant in the spirit of De Stijl, the fixture can be hung as a solitary luminaire or repeated in a unique pattern of three dimensional layers. A variety of colors and finishes are also available. Multidisciplinary design firm Workstead, with dual locations in Brooklyn and New York's Hudson valley, specializes in architecture, interior design, lighting, furniture, and exhibition projects. The Industrial Chandelier can be reconfigured in various orientations to hang between 36- and 62-inches from the ceiling. Both vertical and horizontal arms measure 30 inches in length.
