2019 ACADIA Conference: Thom Mayne Lecture, 10/24 + Morphosis Exhibition Opening Reception, 10/25

October 24, 2019 - October 26, 2019

Ubiquity and Autonomy, 2019 ACADIA Conference at the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture

The 2019 ACADIA Conference comes to The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture, bringing hundreds of researchers, educators, and design professionals to campus for three days of discourse about computational design and emerging technology in architecture.

As a part of ACADIA 2019, we invite you to join us for two open events: Thom Mayne’s public lecture on Thursday, October 24, and the opening reception for Morphosis’ exhibition Amplification of Interconnectedness, Friday, October 25.

Pritzker Prize-winning architect Thom Mayne will be delivering a free, public lecture at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 24 in the LBJ Auditorium. Mayne’s lecture is one of three keynote speeches taking place during the 2019 ACADIA Conference, where Mayne will also receive the ACADIA Lifetime Achievement Award. Thom Mayne is founding principal of Morphosis, a global architecture firm engaged in architecture, urban planning, and research since 1972. Under Mayne, Morphosis’ X-Tech group pursues technology and fabrication research, working with industry partners to arrive at new solutions for constructability and performance. In partnership with UCLA, where he is a Distinguished Professor, Mayne also leads The Now Institute, a graduate studio dedicated to applying design thinking to real-world issues facing cities today.

Mayne’s lecture is free and open to the public. This lecture is made possible by the Jean and Bill Booziotis Endowed Lecture in Architecture.

Also join us on Friday, October 25 for the opening reception for Amplification of Interconnectedness, an exhibition curated and designed by Morphosis featuring “a loose collection of process moment and materials, as found [but louder].” The opening reception will take place at 7:45 p.m. in the Mebane Gallery, with light bites and refreshments in the Eden and Hal Box Courtyard in Goldsmith Hall.  During the reception, attendees will also have the opportunity to experience the 2019 ACADIA Pecha Kucha, where select conference attendees, sponsors, and others will give short, fast-paced presentations around a particular topic.

Please join us to be among the first to see the exhibition, and to experience the excitement and energy of ACADIA 2019 for yourself!
