We invite you to a charrette: on April 4th we will have the opening of an important exhibition in Sibiu, Romania, on the occasion of the centennial birthday of Emil Cioran, important Romanian philosopher, born near Sibiu.
This exhibition will display projects for two houses: A HOUSE FOR EMIL CIORAN (The House of Despair) and A HOUSE FOR J. S. BACH (The House of Hope).
Cioran said that Bach's music is the only argument that the creation of the Universe is not a complete failure. Through this amusing pessimism Cioran expressed his immense admiration for Bach.
We would be very happy if you would feel inspired to be a participant in this event. Please send us anything you might have, or might be able to produce in this short time, that relates to the theme. It could be a drawing, a project, a poem, an essay.
This double exhibition will explore the twin themes of despair and hope.
Please send us your visions for a possible HOUSE FOR BACH (The House of Hope) or HOUSE FOR CIORAN (The House of Despair).
The exhibition will take place in the City Hall of Sibiu and possibly in the Old Cathedral (see the pictures attached). We will also display all the works received on our website.
This will be a two weeks charrette. We know the time is short, but we also know that apparently F. L. Wright produced a quite detailed first set of drawings for Fallingwater in just a few hours, the time it took his client, Mr. Kaufmann, to drive from Milwaukee to Taliesin, after they talked on the phone.
We are not asking you to design a Fallingwater, but we still believe that there is some truth in the saying that a moment makes possible what a whole year doesn't, at least sometimes.
If you decide to participate in this adventure, please send us your work in a digital form to this e-mail address until April 2nd, 2011.
