In 1949, after the completion of his iconic Glass House, Philip Johnson organized the first Modern House Tour in New Canaan as a fundraiser for the New Canaan Library. His next Modern House Tour took place in 1951 as a fundraiser for the Community Nursery School. Nearly 3000 people attended.

On October 22, 2016, the Philip Johnson Glass House, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation is organizing a tour of five significant private houses designed by Philip Johnson in New Canaan, CT. This exclusive one day only/one time only study tour is in celebration of the 110th anniversary of Philip Johnson’s birth and the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Glass House to the public. These private homes are rarely opened the public and only 50 tickets will be available for this event!

The tour will visit the Hodgson House (1951), Alice Ball House (1953), Wiley Speculative House (1954), and Boissonnas House (1956) on small private buses. Each bus and each house will have a Philip Johnson expert to provide information and context. The tour will culminate in an evening sunset tour of the Glass House property (including its 11 structures) + festive reception.
